I'm Home

A safe place for you and me.

Little GirlHow often do you get to enjoy the simple moments in life? The phone rings while I'm rigorously working to complete a day full of technical service request. A small voice simply says, "I'm home!" It's my son calling to say that he made it home from another day of grammar school. He continues on the phone with excitement that only comes from a little child with a soft high-pitched voice, "I won a prize today! We had a pop quiz with five questions and I got all of them right. My teacher surprised me with this great gift. I'm so happy . . . I had a great day at school today." I congratulated my son for a job well done.

After hanging up the phone, I realized how much I take these simple moments for granted. My son called to say that I'm home; this reassurance was punctuated with the good news of receiving a prize. Well, the good news for me was he had a safe ride home and he was in a safe location. His good news was winning a prize for completing the questions on his pop quiz. The most enjoyable moment was hearing an innocent voice in the midst of a day full of complex problems.

Little BoyAfter thinking about this encounter with my son, I thought on our heavenly father who watches over us all. In some cases, God waits for his children to enter into his house and say, "I'm home." We are in a safe place every time we enter into the temple (sanctuary) of God. In Exodus 25:8, God says this of his sanctuary, "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them." When God dwells among us, good things happen in our lives to build our character. In the place that God chooses to place his name, God says, "I will come to thee and I will bless thee."

The sanctuary is a place of refuge or safety. When we talk to God in his temple (sanctuary) extraordinary things begin to happen in our lives. When we are in God's counsel, our attitude and approach to complex situations becomes clearer. The next time you are close to a sanctuary or a place of worship, stop in to tell God, "I'm home" or even "Hello." You will be surprised how your day will change for the better.

What is an example of sin of the heart? In this example, we are using heart to refer to a person's mind or thought processes. In Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus is very clear about sin of the heart. Jesus said, "ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery. But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." As members of the body of Christ, our thoughts should be the same types of thoughts as our heavenly father. Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, or of good report if there be any virtue to think on these things.
